Our First Visitor... We're Open for Business!

Brock was in England the week of September 10th for work and flew to Frankfurt for the weekend. Slogan of that weekend was "There will time to sleep when we are dead." I (Shaun) took off of work on Friday and we explored Frankfurt on foot (Fuß) and by Subway (U-bahn). We checked out Sachsenhausen for a traditional German meal of sausage and sauerkraut. Next we took a drive to Mainz to get a smaller town feel and see the infamous AutoBahn (don't think he was that impressed with the AutoBahn... nor am I). Darn German drivers think they own the left lane.... definitely not following the rules. While in Mainz we had Kabobs / Lamachun (Turkish Pizza) for a snack. Then we headed back to Frankfurt. Kate arrived from Amsterdam around 8pm and then we went to the Alstadt section of Frankfurt for dinner. Next it was Sachsenhausen again for some after dinner drinks (which turned into a debacle). Of course we met a German bachelor party, tried Germany's signature drink, Jager, drank some beers, and partied with that crew... We met those two guys in the background. Maybe they were from Hamburg??

On Saturday, we went to the largest car show in Europe... the IAA International Motor Show. We saw some beautiful cars including Bentleys, Ferraris, Maseratis, and of course, BMW. (P.S. Not a fan of the new X6 they premiered). Around the noon the crowds became too much to handle, so we headed home for a late afternoon nap. For dinner we tried a new place near Alte Oper, Meyer's. The food was excellent and we were able to sit outside under the heaters. Next we meandered around and ultimately settled on a roof garden we saw from the street - Mantis. By 1am we were all very worn out from the busy weekend, and headed home for another good night's sleep. Sunday we took Brock to the aiport (note to all visitors - leave at least 3 hours for departing from the Frankfurt Airport back to the states, lesson leared the hard way - 2 hours is NOT enough!). We wrapped up our weekend by watching a couple of movies on the couch. It was wonderful to have a little bit of home in Germany - Thanks again for coming out Brock!
