Here Comes Santa Claus (Sankt Nikolaus)

On December 15th we drove to Antwerp, Belgium for the evening to participate in the Third Annual Running of the Santas. I am not sure where the tradition began..but my understanding is that a girl who used to live in Philly participated in a similar crawl back in the states and brought the concept with her when she moved to Belgium three yeers ago. The following for the crawl is not huge..we probably had 30 people this year..but it sounds like it grows exponentially each year! The best part...the Belgians have no idea what is going on! After grabbing a bite to eat at an Italian restaraunt..we hit the bars in the town. It is an adorable town and we look forward to visiting in the future.
I was a bit of a country santa. I found a santa suit at the VERY last minute and before finding it all I had was the cowboy hat Shaun had picked up for me at the Christmas Markets. I think if I gained a good 75 lbs. then my suit would have fit much better! I also managed to split the seam of the pants early in the night - I guess that is what happens when you purchase a 12 euro felt santa suit. Shaun had a bit of a boxer-like suit, as it was not a top and pants..but a long robe. Regardless, we donned our suits, stormed the bars of Groen Platz and had a great time mingling with the locals, sampling the Belgian beers, and meeting other "Santas" in our crew (which included Hollywood Santas, Hawiian Santas and even a few Reindeers).

Sunday morning we woke up and enjoyed an awesome lunch at aplace called Lunchbox. I would highly recommend (it reminded me of Blue Moon back home...oh I miss that place). After a 3 1/2 hour drive back to Frankfurt we watched a movie and relaxed. With all of the stores closed on Sundays...we truly have Sunday Funday!

I think you too could probably out drink anyone here in the states now. The blog keeps me awake at work, keep the adventures coming. Merry Christmas & Belated Happy Hanukkah

Hi Kate - that looks like so much fun. You're still so good at updating your blog - well done. It's still very fancy. In a shock move I made some updates to mine the other day. Not that interesting though. Are you coming back to America for Christmas? I'm staying here in America for Christmas and I'm flying back to England for a week on 28th. Take care and have fun!
